So probably anyone who uses pacers (as many have) shouldn't be considered a Nolan's finisher any more than someone doing the route over 60 hours would be. One is free to make one's own "rules" for the Sawatch 15. Mike & I tried it twice as a self-supported backpack, with the objective to finish in 5 days. But we failed the first time due to terrible weather & the second time due to other issues. This time Mike is going "supported", including pacers. Not carrying a 20+lb pack should help!

I'll clarify what my plan is for this year. In 2014 and 2015 I did unsupported attempts going South to North. That meant I was on my own carrying everything I needed from start to finish. This time I figured it would be fun to see if I could go any faster without a big pack. I've always considered myself a one speed guy so here I can put that theory to the test. For me supported means I have someone waiting around for me at various trailheads so that I can resupply, change clothes, and swap out gear depending on the leg, but I won't be using pacers.
I'm going to start with Holy Cross, then drop down to the Fish Hatchery and get a good sleep (something like 6-8 hours if all goes to plan). Then Friday morning I'll continue, but I'll also be starting a supported Nolan's North to South attempt (With three others guys as it turns out
).Sounds like a Nolan's party this weekend!
