Last Labor Day weekend(2025), I finished Mt. Sneffels standard route by climbing the 1st and 2nd gullies as well as V-notch. It was a beautiful hike. The gullies were steep but I felt fine with them. I hesitated in front of V-notch for a couple of minutes because I and my partner were the only two people there. But we still made it up.
This Labor Day weekend (2026), I finished Castle peak. Although it doesn’t have the steep gully as Sneffels, it has a long ridge and many areas exposed to the edge. I still made it to the top. The handling on the ridge of Castle peak made me feel it is more challenging than Sneffels.
I am curious about your thoughts on these two peaks? And ur suggestion for the next class 3 peak to do will be welcomed. Thanks and have a great weekend!
I'd recommend Long's Peak every time. It's amazing. Standard keyhole route. Or maybe standard on Kit Carson would be a slight step down, but Long's Peak is
Thank you very much for your thoughts and suggestions. I would love to do Long’s, but still nervous about that I am not ready:) . I feel Long’s absolutely has longer time of exposing to the cliff than Castle.
