Ryan Kushner on Broad Peak

Post by jfm3 »

Ryan Kushner, AKA kushrocks on this forum, is climbing Broad Peak, an 8000-meter peak, in Pakistan this season. I learned this by reading Alan Arnette's blog updates about the K2/Karakoram climbing season. He has written trip reports on this site of his climbs on Dhaulagiri and Gasherbrum II. I don't know if he has a satellite tracker- updates might be limited to 3rd-hand reports. Cool!

I'm always impressed by folks who tackle those 8000m peaks. Not something I would ever want to try personally, but very impressive stuff to me.

Kush is my old buddy, been texting him on Broad. He's in good spirits and says its really hot and dangerous conditions down low. They have gotten up to almost 22k on their first acclimatization cycle.

He's very fit, a real beast, and I look forward to hearing the story. Kick it, Kushner!
I have phenomenal route-finding abilities. Specifically, I have an uncanny knack for selecting the path of most resistance.

Ryan called it. Snow is too deep above C3, persistent high winds, and long-term forecasts look for more of the same. It could be the first year with no summit on K2 or BP is a very, very long time.
