Jet Fly Over?

Post by Hallie_Schield »

Hello!

I have a memory of a friend chatting about an F-16 fly over on the Fourth of July that passes over Mount Elbert? I was wondering if anyone has more information on this or other mountains that have jet fly overs as a part of 4th of July celebrations. I know there is the CO Natl Guard fly over this year starting at the Buckley Space Force Base and it looks like it's route might take it over Handies Peak outside of Lake City, but also just looking for something a slightly shorter drive from Denver.

Thanks for any and all info you may have regarding this!

If you're on social media, the "Colorado Aviation Photography" fb page should have info a few days prior and a play-by-play once they launch...

If if you're in the area, there's often military flyovers in the Sierra and directly over Mt Whitney.

It's not guaranteed, but you often see good stuff both there and in Saline Valley (next valley east of the Owens Valley). I've been buzzed at ear-splittingly low altitudes in the Alabama Hills, seen them pulling J-turns north of Lone Pine, watched them chase each other in Saline, and seen something that looked like an old X-1 flying near the ground east of Owens Lake. Wave at them, and there's a good chance they'll wave back.

I’ve had Vipers buzz me much closer and at random times of the year, but the coolest was July 4th 2021. I was on the summit of Half Peak, and I first heard, then saw a flight of them pop up one at a time from behind mountains to the west before dropping back down below view. Almost as if they buzzed Ouray, popped up over Red Mountain pass, then went and hit Silverton and/or Durango

Not sure if I’m right, or if that’s a regular thing for the 4th, but I’d love to see that at closer range.
