LOST: Crampons, Ice Axe, Helmet on Elbert

Post by mountainlover153 »

Hiked the East Ridge on 5/14. Had to switch out gear several times during a thundersnow storm, and over the course of the descent...lost several items that fell out of my pack or I unclipped and didn't reclip.

Red BD Vision Helmet. Probably at 12,700 or 13,500.
BD Ice Axe - no idea where this went or when.
Petzyl Sarkan Crampons - likely between 12200 & 13500, most likely close to the "main" summer trail near a large group of rocks protruding from the snow.

Also - lost my Therma Rest NEO Lyte sleeping pad somewhere near the TH.

What a wonderful day in the mountains!

I can’t tell if this was mostly influenced by lightning or shrooms

Sounds like quite the epic on Elbert. Glad you made it out safely and unelectrocuted, despite leaving a laundry list of gear on the mountain. Hope you get it all back but, if not, it can be replaced.

I had a close call in an avalanche that I triggered and was caught in on May 2nd (CAIC accident report). In the slide my skis, which were still on my back, ripped a gash in my new ski pack. A small price to pay to survive what could have resulted in serious trauma or worse.

Video of the incident captured by another skier's remote camera setup:

Not sure if this is supposed to be a joke so - no, I don't climb on any type of substances. Would be rather dumb. Had a bad day here, but that doesn't mean it's not worth trying to recover $800 worth of gear.
