Brainard Rd conditions?

Post by pbakwin »

Anyone been up the Brainard Rd lately? Mostly skiable? Mostly bikeable?

I saw in a facebook group (friends of RMNP I think) that as of last week the road had some large snow drifts less than a mile from the lower parking then more patches of snow from there. They thought it would need more time to melt before being bike friendly. This is like third hand information, however, so not sure how accurate it really is.

A few of the drifts on the road to Brainard were LARGE 2 weeks ago - 5-6' deep. I XC'd the road back from the lake that weekend, cover was generally thin (1"-1' so clear as of yesterday isn't surprising), but those drifts aren't going anywhere fast. If biking, just something to know - they're short enough in length that I'd still entertain trying to bike and haul it over the couple of drifts. West side of Brainard (by Long Lake, etc) was still quite deep (as it tends to be), so I doubt it'll be bikeable for a while yet. 2-3' of snow in the Long Lake lot then too. Of course a large dump incoming first half of this week to reset things for a bit.

Easily bikeable for the first 2 miles, then lots of drifts / snow.
