susanjoypaul - I had, but maybe it didn't take. Will try again tomorrow
martinleroux - I'll try this too tomorrow when I am outside and see what happens, and after calibration.
Thanks both for your ideas

Re: Garmin For Dummies
The Explorer+ has been replaced by the GPSMAP 67i. Has anyone used the 67i, and if so, what are your impressions?
I've thought of the inReach Mini, but would like a larger screen for route finding.

Re: Garmin For Dummies
Just use your phone. Why buy a separate device? My recommendation, if you want the texting/SOS features of Garmin just get their Inreach Messenger, small, ultralight and effective. Route finding is done just as well on a phone using GAIA, onX, Caltopo apps

I like mine. Bluetooth connection to the phone makes typing out messages really easy when your phone has battery. If you carry your GPS externally, make sure to put on a screen protector (I learned this the hard way with other GPS’s).
