I will be visiting the Leadville area next weekend and was hoping to do Mt Elbert on Saturday. It seems like the East Ridge is the best/safest route in the winter. I am unable to bring my own snow shoes and poles, so I do plan to rent some once I arrive.
As of right now it doesn’t seem like there’s any major snow that will be coming through, but I know that is always subject to change. Any advice or input on this route and what trail conditions are currently? Thanks!

only major note is this time of year youll likely have to start at the 2wd TH, makes the round trip 14.5 miles which is quite a long day in the winter
