What do I pack?

Post by Arosas923 »

Will be conquering my first 14ers the week of June 17th. Coming from Ohio. Plans are Mt. Elbert and Torrey/Grays
combo. What kind of clothes should I be packing? Also should I bring my hiking boots or trail running shoes? Any recommendations and help would be appreciated.

Theres a June 9 report for Elbert under Conditions tab. Says a little snow at treeline. Could be gone in ten days.

Biggest mistakes I see are
Footwear, poor
Water, not enough
Sunburn, too much
Departure time, too late
Storm, afternoon, summit, fever

Otherwise it's generally just walking and if you're in decent shape you'll be fine.

+1. I would add "no food" and "no emergency equipment". You don't necessarily need a lot of emergency stuff on a summer ascent of a class 1 or 2 mountain, but an emergency bivy sac and a small "first aid kit" are good ideas.
