Attempt to Live Off Grid Proves Fatal for Three

Post by painless4u2 »

Christine and Rebecca Vance, and Rebecca's 14 year old son, all from Colorado Springs, were found at a remote campsite in the Gunnison NF earlier this summer and had apparently died of starvation and malnutrition. They were attempting to "live off the grid" and away from society. Reminds one of Chris McCandless fatal attempt in Alaska. Sad.

There's some survival game show, maybe Alone? Anyway, it's just whoever lasts the longest gets the million bucks.
A lot quit in the first week.
And these are people who sign up for this, come prepared, etc.

I think most of the winners get something like 90 days
And they are emaciated.. Sometimes it's just whoever has the most calorie reserves wins.

I think people wildly underestimate the difficulty in obtaining even 1000 calories a day. More like 200, while you expend 1000 foraging.

Anyway, really sad story, especially for the kid.
If you want to go live off grid, that's cool, but bring a few gallons of seal oil and peanut butter with you.
