@Ed The construction being discussed here is quite a ways from Dillion. It will primarily effect travelers who are going between Denver and Idaho Springs. That's not to say you won't run into traffic but, of you do, it's unlikely to be traffic related to this construction project.
Where ever you are... There you are.

Will the slowdowns be present during the weekend?

How would anyone know - once you're at 0mph it becomes tricky to tell if things have slowed down any further...

But seriously, no, the construction related delays are being timed to not add to the typical weekend slowdown, in theory.

Yes. There have been several proposals for a vehicle tunnel from the Front Range to Winter Park. None of them got off the ground and such a tunnel is unlikely to happen anytime soon.
XterraRob wrote: Mon Jul 31, 2023 7:32 pm Off topic, has there ever been a proposal to put in a highway to connect the Winter Park/Steamboat/Grandby area with NW metro-Denver/Boulder?
Well, a train engine is technically a vehicle, and there has been a tunnel for nearly 100 years. It's been a while since my last visit to the Fraser valley so things could have changed in particular re freight train traffic, but the railroad does not appear to be extremely busy and the tracks are really close to all the Fraser Valley towns and go right downtown Denver. Food for thought...

Same people when the road is being fixed: How dare they delay me to fix the road like I have been asking for!
Also people: I WANNA MOVE TO COLORADO!!!!!

Same people after they finally secured their undersized overpriced home in a sprawling suburb miles and miles from anywhere convenient: I hate driving in Colorado so much. So much traffic everywhere!

Cool, thanks. I'll be arriving in a few weeks on a Saturday and was just wondering if I should take 285 or stick with I-70.

No, it's only Monday through Thursday.

There was another thread on that recently - majority consensus was I-70 is typically the better bet due to more lanes but occasionally you get lucky on 285.

Something like Lötschberg car train between Kandersteg and Goppenstein, but in Colorado? C'mon dude, s'il vous plait.

re: I-70 vs 285, I have been having better luck with 285 this year. It's a crapshoot though. Best to install Waze and monitor the traffic conditions.

Called the schedule hotline at 720-994-2368 and it looks like they'll have a recording from week to week for the blasting schedule, this week it's Mon-Thu from 9a-3p. They also have a schedule for nightly eastbound lane closures up Floyd Hill, I already drove thru one of those without knowing beforehand tho and that wasn't a big deal.

As far as traffic goes we all know some buses from Denver Union Station to the Bierstadt & Quandary trailheads would curtail nearly all I-70 traffic

I wonder if Bustang would get more ridership if they left from the Dino lots instead of Union Station. Downtown Denver is not exactly convenient for most people.
