Truth! And it is definitely up to the record attempter to do their homework. In this case i know Dan is really trying hard he contacted me with several questions on how to make sure he was satisfying the 3000’ rule.

Anyway i just got off the phone with him and he should have those presets for summits, starts, and stops configured correctly now.

He's moving well today. Looks like he already cleared ED. Keep it up Dan.

Guarantee I appreciate the effort more than most people on this site. Once the “Im going for a record…” door is opened so is the scrutiny.
the scrutiny in real-time is vitally important, as we've already seen. any record attempt is going to be scrutinized before it can be validated. better to point out any issues or discrepancies now, while they can still be corrected, than after the fact, when it's too late. i can't imagine how disappointing it would be to put in all that time and effort and set the record, only to have it thrown out for something that could have been avoided if someone had just said something earlier.

Agreed. Very much admire and respect the strength of this effort.
Encouraging also to hear that the InReach configuration puzzle is being addressed.
As a veteran InReach user, I know all too well that it is an extremely useful tool, but not always an exacting or precise tool.
So maybe it is just the way the track is showing up on my computer screen, but I'm not seeing a track to the summit of Wilson Peak. Anybody else having the same issue?

also.. if peyton manning is commentating a football game, is it still "armchair quarterbacking"? or is it someone who has made similar efforts offering constructive feedback that is, as tim mentioned, better to have in the moment than after the fact?

keep going Dan!! =D>

Remember it’s self supported so he has to return to his car, so he probably wanted to get the traverse done early and will likely hit Wilson peak on the way back.

Andrew/Andrea/Brent/Eric/Justin/Glen/anyone: any insight into where he’s at in comparison to the record at this point or would you say it’s too soon to give an idea if he’s on track, ahead of pace, or behind?

Keep moving, Dan!

Keep moving, Dan!
His original plan was actually to do the Wilson’s on day one, after Chicago basin. He told me his concern for the difficulty of the day and when he started thinking about it i think he saw some merit in giving himself an extra day in the San Juan’s and toning down his aggressiveness.

So for now he is right on schedule. Today is annoying because he will have to waste many daylight hours driving though.

Hard to judge where he is at compared to previous record because i don’t know the details/route of that one very well. Maybe he has a copy of a plan that he would send me that i could post. I’ll ask him.

Guess you appreciate the subtlety of a fine Bourdeaux as well, while the rest of us just think "mmm, grape-y".
