Pretty! It's amazing they first found the Alma Queen that sold for $2,500, but guess the cumulative value of everything they've mined in total is over $100 million. That's a lot of Alma Queens!

Fascinating and thank you - I had no idea there was actually this kind of mineral value up there! So yeah, eminent domain seems prohibitively costly in this case.
Who knows, maybe as I'm stumbling and tumbling my way down Bross later this week I'll unearth one - assuming the trail is open.

It looks like the NFS updated their website saying that they are closed:
https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/psicc/r ... ecid=12844
See under "Operational Hours".

Thank you! And I just called the South Park Ranger District listed on that page, and they confirmed that the trails are closed, as they have not yet heard from the landowners since the May closure.Scott P wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 10:53 pmIt looks like the NFS updated their website saying that they are closed:

Re: DeCaLiBron Closed to public access?
Seriously, the ONLY official source saying the trails are closed is that NF web page?! And there are no signs posted at the trailhead?!
I rather doubt many people planning to go up there will look at that web page. And even if they do, will they notice the fine print stating the trails are closed?
The last time I was near Kite Lake on a weekend (July 2015), it was a zoo. I'm sure the mountains are even busier nowadays.
Edit: fixed video embedding

Re: DeCaLiBron Closed to public access?
That video is insane
Re: DeCaLiBron Closed to public access?
Referring to the video showing all the cars in 2015.
Yeah...and you can imagine that with those kinda numbers, the land owner wants protection against some dumb@$$ who decides it's cool to go poking around in a prospecting hole and gashes his head open on a rock. Then blames the owner since the sign in front of the mine was stolen earlier in the month because someone else is a turd.
Until there are protections, I wouldn't want that kinda circus on my property either.

Re: DeCaLiBron Closed to public access?
it seems to me like the current situation would not save the landowners from the liability they claim to be trying to avoid. these trails and peaks have been consistently open to hikers on a longstanding basis, such that a reasonable person going there would not be expected to know they are currently closed. if there are currently no clearly posted signs or other physical barriers to prevent access, then you can't expect a notice of closure on a website hardly anyone visits to provide you any legal protection. if someone gets hurt and decides to sue, the landowners would have to show that person knew they weren't supposed to be there. the current efforts being made are not nearly sufficient to demonstrate an honest effort by the landowners to inform people of the closure.

I feel really really bad for the landowners near the Quandary trailhead.RyGuy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 9:17 am Referring to the video showing all the cars in 2015.

The road has been signed for no parking and they now give tickets for anyone parking along the road. Everyone has to park in the parking lot now.Somewhat of a Prick wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 9:43 amI feel really really bad for the landowners near the Quandary trailhead.
