Bummer on the junky counterfeit, but hey, it was worth a shot.
It all made for a great story. And in the end it just reinforced the old saying, "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is."
But...ya never know unless you try! Nice work.

I'm not sure you can take it that far. In china, counterfeiting items lots of times happens at the same factory with the same staff as the original item. Say Arcteryx tells the factory to make 1000 jackets in a month. But the factory has the capability to make 1200 jackets a month. Sometimes they make the extra 200, slap a different logo or no logo on them, and sell them for cheaper to locals. Then the immoral locals will slap a fake Arcteryx logo on them, and sell them for much less margin then Arcteryx does. Because they don't have to put any money into marketing, research, etc.Gene913 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 4:40 pm
So go buy the counterfeit Arcteryx jacket. But do so knowing that most counterfeit goods are produced in sweatshops run by organized crime, profits often support terrorist groups, drug smugglers, sex traffickers and street gangs. Sweatshops, in turn, are notorious for violating child-labor laws and basic human rights, and many workers are coerced through a system of indentured servitude, a form of modern-day slavery.
Most consumers do not want to subsidize organized crime. Most simply don’t realize that’s what they’re doing when they buy logoed items or pirated DVDs from a vendor charging rock-bottom prices for goods that are supposed to be the real thing.
So no terrorists, drug smugglers, sex traffickers and street gangs are involved. Moral panic averted

This thread is amazing. We’ve got:
- People wondering if an obvious scam is legit
- People upset about posting an email from a corporate fraud-detection address
- People white knighting for scammers over chargebacks
Bill, please never shut down these forums.

Do you have any evidence to back that up?

Re: Arc'teryx sale, is this legit?
Per the above post from Trotter, re: the origins of counterfeit products, the statement was not that "all counterfeit goods are produced in . . ." but rather that "most counterfeit goods are produced in . . ."
Having participated for decades in the investigation and prosecution of counterfeiting cases in federal court, my experience leads me to conclude that that the situation described by Trotter does occur. But the ratio or volume of such instances is quite small compared to organized, large scale, for-profit counterfeiting operations like those described.

Re: Arc'teryx sale, is this legit?
The jacket finally arrived.
I had ordered a green Rush, and an orange Alpha SV showed up.
I compared it to the "spot a fake" photos on the Arc'teryx site, and it's very well done.
Honestly, if they had used a high quality main zipper I think it'd pass. The other zippers are decent, The stitching isn't quite up to par (but when was the last time you really examined the stitching?), The logo and graphics look real.
But that main zipper just sucks, dead give away. I sent pics to Arc'teryx and they confirmed it's fake.
The company website appears to be down, as well.
Not sure exactly what I'll do since it was a gift and I don't want to offend the person, but I also don't want them to waste their money, and I also don't want to have to wear this jacket any time I see them!
Note: no, I'm not going to buy an Alpha from REI then return this one. Ha. And I'm also not going to sell it on eBay or anything like that.
Well, maybe I post "one high quality counterfeit jacket". After all, 80% of the value in Arc'teryx is the logo on the chest!
Suggestions?
