I didn't know him but immediately recognized his username. What terrible news. He seems to have had a great impact on many people - even those he didn't know him personally. Condolences to family and friends... RIP

One of my favorite action shots of Rob, taken from a perch before the summit crux on Wilson Peak.

^^Great photo, Bill.
I was hoping to wake up today and have this all be a dream. But it's not. Dillon, Greg, Dan, Tyler, Jeff, and all of his family and friends: Please know that I'm praying for you all and will continue to lift you up as God brings you to my mind. And although Rob's exit came unbidden, his memory will always light up our lives.

Such sad news. I am saddened by the loss of another fellow mountaineer. May friends, family, and those in the fourteener community grieve and remember the youthful passion that Rob had. I am humbled by the amount of passion that Rob had. Rest in peace Rob.

My sincere condolences to Rob's family. We are all blessed to get the time we have, and Rob certainly made the best of it. He was truly a well liked, well respected hiker. The world could use a few more like him.

Re: RIP Rob Jansen (rjansen77)
My heart breaks and my prayers rise for ALL of you. So many of you have lost a friend, someone has lost a son, we have all lost a kindred spirit. I am just a fringe member here, but I pray you all find comfort in one another and wrap yourselves around the rest of Rob's climbing party. I can only imagine their sorrow. As a father, I saw the photo of Rob and his dad on Holy Cross and flashed to one of my son and I on Yale. I cannot fathom what it would be like to have to stand on the next one without him.
"There's a million angels holding up a million stars.
Every song and every breeze blow from me to where you are.
The distance is beyond my reach, but I know until
I can put these arms around you, my God will."
I am so sorry; peace and comfort to you all. Lift Rob up in your thoughts and he will hold you all up through your shared moments.

"In this high country that we love, trails are steep. We climb each mile, breath by breath, and at the threshold of pain, bliss overtakes us."
"It's called CRAZY. And somehow, when you are bent over your poles, staring at your boots- heart heaving and trying not to cough your lung onto a rock= you look up...and you are looking down over all those beautiful mountains....and you wouldn't want to be anywhere else."
"For all the richness of normal, everyday life, it is good sometimes to trespass high in the sky, and live with uncommon intensity, experiencing something that gets close to the sublime."

I first met Rob on top of Broken Hand Pass last year. He was all smiles.
He and I chatted at a couple of the happy hours. He seemed like a great guy. He'll be missed
Peace to his family and friends.

Sad. I only met Rob once when Rob climbed Tabeguache with Kessler, me and other 14ers.com members last October 22. Sorry to hear he's gone.
RIP my friend. Everyone will miss you.

I'm old, slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.

Re: RIP Rob Jansen (rjansen77)
Like everyone else, I was shocked to hear of this tragedy. I met Rob very briefly on the summit of Crestone Needle with his compadres this spring as part of the spring gathering. I wish I could have hiked with him before he left us as he sounded like a strong partner with an unbridled passion for the mountains. May the Lord go with the family and friends of this young man who touched so many lives. My thoughts and prayers are with you. This is a reminder that life is fleeting and we must live it to the fullest. Rob did just that!
"Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I."
Psalms 61:1-2
