As I look around at various peaks at the moment, snow levels on southern aspects seem to start around 12.5k' while northern aspects extend a bit below tree line to maybe 11k'. I would guesstimate general depths to be in the 3-12+" range with, predictably, the higher amounts on those northern sides.

Thinking of Mt. Yale as a possibility tomorrow... wondering what the conditions are like. It will be my first hike with some snow so I'm curious. If we go, should I bother wih snowshoes?

I just did princeton yesterday and snowshoes were definitely not needed. There was snow on a decent amount of the trail, but it was like 3". Although I didn't use microspikes on my hike, there were a few spots where that would have helped a little for extra traction, but not absolutely necessary. Based on my view of yale from the summit, I can't imagine yale would be any different.

Kate and I just got down from Yale. Minimal snow below the saddle; microspikes were nice for some of it, but were not necessary. We had poles but no axe and were fine with that.
Some snow on the summit ridge, but not enough to complicate things too much.
Have fun!

Anyone out there with an update on Yale. Looking at climbing it tomorrow and figured it would be pretty bare since it hasn't snow much up high all week, but just saw the latest conditions report from Sun/Mon and want to make sure before we head out.

As I look up there I would say BobbyFinn's line pretty much sums it up.
