Anyone have the latest on route or trailhead conditions for Elbert's East Ridge? I'm planning to head up there this weekend, and the latest I've seen is Aubrey's trip report dated May 2nd (a little frightening, by the way).
Also, is camping allowed or available near the lower trailhead, or along the 4WD road?

Re: Elbert Conditions/Camping
I went up that route on Saturday, there were 6 of us along with another 4 or 6 skiers that were up there. We booted all the way to the summit, albeit on snow for most of the way (it was a mix of bare ground and snow for the first mile or so). We were glad to have the snow shoes for the descent, we started post holing in early afternon on the descent.
We did not think of the great open plains, the beautiful rolling hills, and winding streams... as "wild". Only to the white man was nature a "wilderness".

Oh, and there are several established campsites along the access road just above the TH parking area (above the TH area at the paved road).

Re: Elbert Conditions/Camping
Thanks for the info. We made it almost to the top on Friday. Glad to have snowshoes. Before treeline we were postholing a bit even with them. Lots of places to camp along the road and the conditions weren't bad--a little muddy but we made it most the way up in 2WD
