Re: Missing Climber: Maroon Bells, Bells traverse, Pyramid
Good Morning to all
We are about to begin our next operational period which includes reviewing and revising our initial plan(s) if need be.
Part of this process is establishing where the person is NOT or is less likely to be allowing the team(s) to focus resource in "likely areas
THANK YOU to each of you who have contributed even the smallest detail as we try to narrow the expansive search area.
For those of you who were out there climbing this week, keep thinking about what you saw, who you met or what you did not see.
Sometimes people think "Well I didn't see anything so I have nothing to contribute"
If you were somewhere in this search area and saw NOTHING please let us know.
It does not mean we won't search there but it helps us analyze "WHERE" we will focus FIRST
Thank you for your support in this effort

Is there a way to keep this thread permanently "bumped" to the top of the list until this guy is found?

Re: Missing Climber: Maroon Bells, Bells traverse, Pyramid
Thank you to everyone contributing thoughts and information! I am David's sister. We are hear in CO waiting for him to be found.
Here is a summary of what we know:
He started his hike around 11:45am on Monday, which was very uncharacteristic of him. He usually started by 5am!
He was seen on the ascent of South Maroon at 1:40pm and was said to be moving slowly, which was also very uncharacteristic! He was an avid climber and in great shape.
He had a few pings off his cell phone near the top of South Maroon over a 2 hour period between 4 & 6pm.
We believe his plan was to make the traverse and descend North Maroon. SAR is searching both peaks.
The two things I have to add this morning are that:
1) I feel he didn't make the first summit, because he did not send a picture as he usually does from the summit.
2) A friend, while praying, felt God gave her a picture of him in a crevasse between two big rocks, with a broken leg, and snow, and a large flat rock overhead. Only God knows...but if this image generates a specific location to someone who has hiked this area, please let us know!
Thanks!

Re: Missing Climber: Maroon Bells, Bells traverse, Pyramid
We pray this might be helpful. We arrived at in the Maroon Bells area around 6:55 a.m. Tuesday, September 20th to take photos of the Bells. About an hour later, a man fitting this description came through on the trail around Maroon Lake while we were waiting for the additional sunlight for photos. He had climbing gear and a light blue helmet. He was talking with some other climbers that were also passing through. He had a conversation with a female climber and they were pointing and talking about the rocks in the photo. I am unsure if they were climbing together or just chatting. Close to the bottom of the photo is a man in khaki pants and a blue jacket, near the trees, where the trail disappears into the wooded area. This photo was taken around 8:00 a.m. We pray that this might be helpful to you in helping locate your loved one. Prayers for you and yours.
