Challenger Point is Not Ranked!

Post by bdloftin77 »

After five weeks of painful waiting, the long-awaited email from the Colorado Hazard Mapping website finally arrived. Challenger Point is now officially unranked, and just a sub-summit of Kit Carson Mountain!

Summit: 14,086'
Saddle: 13,822'
Prominence: 264'

We are back to 53 ranked 14ers, and very close to the CMC list (with the exception of excluding El Diente Peak).

I just emailed John the results - he usually has updates by the end of the work week.

I climbed this one separately from Kit Carson. Kit Carson from South Colony and Challenger from Willow Creek. I was so proud of this accomplishment. ha ha

Personally I like North Maroon ranked rather than Challenger Point, so I'm happy to see the changes.
I'm old, slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.

Declassifying a 14er: What It Takes...

I already made that overused joke. Anyway, now we have to figure out whether Niagara or Trinity peak is the #100 centennial.

Totally agree with you Scott
Consecutive months with at least one 13er or 14er: 100 months.

They are tied within the margin of error.

I think it’s obvious to go with Niagara, as it’s first alphabetically.

It was hard to find good pictures of the summits. Are there any sizeable man-made cairns that could sway the lidar/list order on either? From the little I could find, I didn't see anything very disruptive.

Ben,

Keep looking. If Trinity is involved, we need a 3 way tie at #100. Niagara, Trinity, and Teakettle can be called "the triumvirate".

Thanks.
