Start by following the trail 1.5 miles
1 2 to Half Moon Pass
, where 13er Notch Mountain rises to your left
3. Cross the pass and descend west
4 5. Near 11,300', take in the views of Holy Cross and the north ridge route to the southwest
6. Continue past the northwest shoulder of Notch Mountain and descend 1,000 feet toward East Cross Creek
7 8. Near 10,700', prior to the creek, reach an information sign that has a map of designated campsites
9.
Cross the creek
and ascend west
10. Pass through rocky sections
11 and south through the forest to reach tree line
near 11,700'
12. Taken from the northeast,
13 shows much of the north ridge. Follow the trail south and southeast, aiming for the east edge of the ridge
14. Above 12,000', navigate rocky terrain along the ridge, staying on the cairned route
15. Above 13,200', stay along the ridge
16 or slightly right, following the large cairns until you reach a corner
near 13,400'
17.
Beyond the corner, veer left into more rugged terrain
18. At 13,700', reach a notch at the top of Angelica Couloir
19. Do not climb directly to the summit here! Instead, follow cairns to the right, then turn left toward the summit
20. Climb the final, rugged 300 feet to the top
21 22 23.
On the way down, be sure to follow the cairned route back to the top of Angelica Couloir and down the same trail. Shortcuts are not an option—you must return via the same route to East Cross Creek. Once at the creek, prepare to regain the 1,000 feet of elevation to reach Half Moon Pass before descending to the trailhead.
