Intermittent snow begins in earnest around 3.5 miles in. Continuous snow begins around 10,600 to 10,800 feet (4.75 miles in). Snow is fully consolidated. Used spikes for the ascent. Nothing else needed. Final ridge is mostly dry except for two short snow crossings. 14.60 miles, 4,927 feet and 9h20m round trip from Gore Creek TH. |

7/25/2023 Route: Deluge Lake Posted On: 7/26/2023, By: tjf242424 Info: I did the trio of Silverthorne, Snow, and Valhalla from a camp at Deluge Lake and all are in summer condition. The route to Silverthorne via Snow Lake is quite straightforward and goes quickly. The trail to Snow Pass can be easily seen from Deluge Lake. A bit of boulder hopping leads to grass and the traversing trail to the pass. From the pass, the entire route to the south ridge of Silverthorne can be seen (photo). |

7/23/2022 Route: West Posted On: 7/23/2022, By: calhack7 Info: Summited Zodiac View, Silverthorne, and East Thorn today from the Gore Creek Trailhead. Had perfect conditions and weather. There was a bit of bushwhacking getting off the trail to below Zodiac, but nothing too bad. Stayed close to the ridge on Silverthorne and had some class 3 scrambling. East Thorn had some class 4 moves, the ridge to get to the summit was a bit spicy. No carins on the route but it was not difficult to keep it class 4. Saw plenty of people on the Gore Creek trail but only one other party up on the mountain. Wildflowers are at their peak, get up there now if you want to see them. My phone clocked in 17.4 miles and 6900ft, my partners was at 16.3 miles and 6300ft, so take those numbers with a grain of salt. |

Pretty straight forward and I was able to avoid snow the entire way to the summit. Absolutely gorgeous area and I had the mountain to myself. Ton of downed trees on the Gore Creek trail. Saw a black bear at Gore Lake. |

11/22/2020 Route: Gore Creek Trail Posted On: 11/22/2020, By: Wildernessjane Info: Did not use snowshoes until after the turn off for Gore Lake Trail. Gore Creek Trail was pretty hard packed and icy at times so microspikes were nice to have. Ditched snowshoes at 11,800. The route was mostly dry from that point on, or at least snow was fairly avoidable the way we went. We hit the ridge from the saddle versus traversing low (lots of snow to cross here) and going up one of the loose gullies. There is a headwall to contend with but we found a reasonable way down to the saddle before doing the final stretch to the summit. Sorry, no pics. |

9/19/2020 Route: East Ridge from Salmon Lake over East Thorn Posted On: 9/19/2020, By: VeraUndertow Info: Super fun route, trail from Willowbrook TH was no problem to follow in the dark just make sure you understand the trail names or have a gps to make sure you head the right ways at each junction. We grabbed the east ridge as soon as possible after Salmon Lake and climbed the nice dry class 3&4 ridge up to East Thorne. It was a great climb and was a fun challenging way to get up. We didn't use a rope and I thought route finding was pretty simple, just a few times I had to downclimb a bit to find a workaround for a cliff band. Getting from East Thorne over to Willow BM/Silverthorne proper was about 10 minutes of scrambling and then a nice almost entirely dry talus hop across the slope and up to the summit about 20 minutes total. On the way down we got to do 2 nice glissades about 500-600 ft of vertical total. The rest of the way down was pretty loose till just above Salmon lake again, then a quick bushwhack to trail and a nice hike out through turning Aspens. Was thinking about trying the traverse to Rain from Silverthorne which was also looking dry, but the sky's were getting dark and the wind was picking up so we decided to play it safe. Left at 6 am and got back at 3:40 but took our time on the ridge and the approach definitely took a while each way |

8/3/2011 Route: Willow Creek/Salmon Lake Posted On: 8/3/2011, By: TravelingMatt Info: The basins in the Gore Range are still holding a ton of snow. Above Salmon Lake is no exception. There are multiple large snowfields from 11,500 to 12,700 feet and it will be necessary to cross at least one to get to Silverthorne or East Thorn. Snow gear highly recommended. The traverse from Silverthorne to East Thorn gets harder the closer you get to East Thorn, with loose talus and extensive scrambling past the eastermost col. Easiest way up East Thorn is up and over the northern summit block, then make a ~20ft, Class 4ish traverse over to the higher southern summit. One can go straight to or from East Thorn via a talus gully west of the summit, although it is easier to get up by summiting Silverthorne first. |
