Route: Wilcox, Argentine, Square Top Lolly Pop Loop
Posted On: 7/28/2024, By: greenschist
Info: Started from Guanella Pass. Took the trail up Square Top, then mixed talus and tundra to Argentine and Wilcox. Entire route was dry. From the summit I dropped about 500 feet to the southeast. To avoid private property at Naylor Lake I then took a hard turn southwest, aiming for the trail at Murray Reservoir. The slope got pretty steep at times but was mostly stable, with maybe a dozen steps on loose rock. I was able to avoid trespassing, bushwhacking, and willows. From the reservoir I had a pleasant hike out of the basin, which was much prettier than I expected. Since I was parked at the top of the pass I had to walk up the road. It never gets very steep so the extra ~2 miles wasn't bad at all. Just over 13 miles round trip. I didn't encounter any people from the moment I left Square Top until reaching the trail at the reservoir. Lost of paintbrush flowers up high, some columbines lower in the basin.

Route: E Ridge from Guanella Winter Lot
Posted On: 11/4/2023, By: MidsizeAl
Info: Skirted private property by bushwhacking through the forest at the Silver Dollar Lake TH split. Trickier route finding than I anticipated because the slope tends to funnel you towards Naylor Lake, but the gps kept us from trespassing. Minimal snow from TH to summit, maybe 6 inches in places.

Info: This condition update might be kinda useless, since there's some snow bearing down on this peak in the hours following this post. Pretty dry from Argentine Peak on to Mt. Wilcox. No traction needed.

Route: From Argentine
Posted On: 7/22/2022, By: madmattd
Info: Backtracked to the saddle between the Argentine summits, and traversed over to Wilcox from there. Steep at times, but nothing too crazy. On descent, I returned to near the Argentine-Wilcox saddle, and took the grassy ramp from there down to just above Murray Lake. A short gully from there led to near the lake, and I picked up the trail for the return to the Silver Dollar TH. No willow-whacking required. I think this minor extra distance is far preferable to going down the East ridge and threading between cliffs, crappy talus, and private property. Scared up a doe near the stream on the ramp drinking in the willows, I'm not sure which of us was more startled.

Route: Silver Dollar TH
Posted On: 6/20/2021, By: soccern23ny
Info: Started at silver dollar trailhead and took it to Murray lake. From there I basically went straight up the southern face using natural serpentines on the face of the mountain. Other option would have been to walk to the saddle and up but that didn't seem worth the extra distance. Little to no snow/very easily avoidable. Traversed over to Argentine and Square top and descend square top north face to silver dollar lake and linked back to the silver dollar trail. Argentine had one small stretch of snow on it's eastern approach near the summit.

Route: East Ridge
Posted On: 6/19/2021, By: Ptglhs
Info: Went up the east Ridge, staying east of the private property lines. A short social/game trail fades in and out but doing a rising traverse to climbers right up the slope leads to a small stream and open meadows. After that it's an easy stroll on tundra to the summit. Small amounts of avoidable snow. Descended to saddle with Argentine. No trail, class 2 on mostly solid talus. Descent to Murray Lake winds around a drainage but is easy to see most when up on ridge. Descent from saddle doesn't exceed easy tundra stroll. More snow on trail from silver dollar lake than up on Wilcox.
