Huron Peak

Sure, Huron Peak is widely regarded as one of the best and most enjoyable introductory 14ers in the Sawatch Range. It's a relatively short and straightforward hike that spans roughly 6.5 miles round-trip from the upper trailhead, making it a highly manageable objective for hikers looking to transition from standard trails to high-altitude peaks without facing technical rock scrambling or exposure.

You will need a high-clearance AWD or 4WD vehicle if you want to drive all the way to the upper trailhead. While standard low-clearance 2WD cars can easily manage the smooth dirt road up to the lower parking area, the final two miles degrade into a rough, rocky, and deeply rutted track that will easily bottom out a normal passenger car, forcing 2WD hikers to park early and walk the extra road mileage.

Due to its approachable nature and magnificent scenery, Huron is popular and gets heavily crowded on summer weekends. If you want to secure a parking spot and enjoy a more peaceful experience on the trail, you should consider scheduling your hike for a weekday or aiming to arrive at the trailhead well before sunrise to beat the massive weekend crowds.

The summit offers some of the most spectacular, breathtaking, and pristine panoramic views in the Sawatch Range. Because Huron sits slightly west of the main spine of the continental divide, it provides a perfectly framed, unobstructed look straight at the towering, rugged peaks of the Three Apostles (13ers), creating a dramatic high-alpine backdrop.
