I've recently had some issues with neighborhood squirrels chewing wiring under the hood of my car. I have a neighbor that likes to feed them, so activity is heavier than normal at my place. After a few costly repairs, I installed a device called a mouse blocker. It puts out high pitched noises and has tiny lights that flash. I let it run 24/7 and the instructions claim it will turn off if the battery dips to a certain level. This paired with peppermint spray has worked so far.
I realize marmots aren't squirrels, but they definitely have similarities. Might be worth it for something that maybe works. Especially considering it's basically hands off, or at the very least a lot less effort than temporary fencing.

Great tips! Marmots definitely have a taste for vehicle wiring. I borrowed my dad's pickup years back to get up the Herman Pass Rd in the Sangres, It was a typical 10 hour-ish kind of day and we returned to the truck to see a marmot scamper out from beneath the hood and a few of the gauges did not function properly on the way home. Repairs ran between $400-$500.
I have phenomenal route-finding abilities. Specifically, I have an uncanny knack for selecting the path of most resistance.
