Snowmass S Ridge 7/9-7/12

Post by Brettmb98 »

Hello! Looking for a climbing partner for going up the S Ridge of Snowmass and coming down the west slope! Planning on doing it next week/weekend (7/9 - 7/12) but flexible on which day. Currently at 48/58, moderate paced hiker. Have a vehicle that can make it to the trailhead, would camp there the night before and start early!

Hey, I may be able to join for this, was recently looking into the S Ridge route. Possibly could drive up Friday and hike Saturday. Let me know if still looking for a partner?

Not exactly the topic but I would recommend descending down the S ridge instead of the West slopes. The West slopes are the worst thing I have ever dealt with on a 14er. S Ridge is fun and although technical, its more solid and in my opinion less dangerous than dealing with the refrigerator type rocks constantly trying to fly out from under you on the West slopes. Also, when you drive up to Lead King Basin, make sure you go back out the same way instead of completing the loop to Crystal. LKB to Crystal is a nightmare of a road. Marble to LKB isnt great either.

golden oldie

not trying to pick a fight, but west slope descent makes a nice circuit after S Ridge:

Gotta agree with access though. Upper road coming and going. Lower road is a bear.

To clarify the simplest route here, it sounds like it is from Marble, and it is north around Sheep Mountain on FS 315?
