Interesting info. to try to answer your original question Steve.


The USGS triangulation station on the top of Mount Adams is named DRY. That is why the station is stamped that. It was set in 1956 as horizontal control. No elevation was established on it. See attached NGS datasheet. Often times the stations received short names by the surveyors because they had to stamp the marks and it was easier to stamp short names rather than long ones. I cannot guess why the station was named DRY, other than it meant something to the fieldman.
