Solo winter summit Denali - Lonnie Dupre

Post by bergsteigen »

~2 hours ago Lonnie Dupre became the first person to solo Denali in January. Pretty freakin impressive! He had humongous skis made to be able to cross crevasses safely.

Holy crap. Hopefully he gets down safely.

I can't fathom the dedication to go back 4 times in a row to be up there all alone.

He just made it to high camp, 17.2K, so a good sign for a safe descent.

Wow that's incredible! I just finished rereading -148 F about the first winter ascent on Denali and the ordeal that team went through and I couldn't imagine doing it solo.

I hope all goes well and he has a safe descent...

Congratulations Lonnie! I met him a few years back at one of the 10th mountain division huts. He was up there acclimating for I believe his second attempt. I am glad he finally made it to the top, best wishes for his safe return.

Unbelievable and well done to Lonnie! I was following the trip from his FB page. Beast mode was on.

His drive and persistence to complete this feat is extremely admirable. Hoping for a safe descent!

Not my cup of tea but hell yea! Super psyched for Lonnie and his persistence.

His progress reports are here: http://www.oneworldendeavors.com/#!news/c1fvs" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The aerial photo of his headlamp on the descent is striking. So big and cold...

I was really looking for a picture of his skis. Wow, those are huge!

That's seriously impressive! I know I'm not the first to think of this, but I'll say it...are we sure he didn't have those massive skis to help him carry his massive "cojones"?

Edited to add: I just noticed the Voile tele bindings too. That's even more impressive!
