There isn't much skiing to be had in Breckenridge yet and that made climbing Peak 9 on a wonderful early winters day the best choice of options.
We parked the car in the Beaver Run parking lot, still free because the slopes on this side of town are closed. We cut up a trail between the Quicksilver and Beaver Run chairs to avoid the snow blowing and grooming.
The plan was to follow the lift lines up, Beaver Run to Mercury. I think we are under the Beaver Run chair here, but honestly I got a bit confused sometimes.
We kept pushing up, the odd snow mobile passing us, no serious snow to speak of.
Above the top of Mercury Chair we started to get into "over the boot" snow.
Two of the party had snow shoes so we used them, taking them off on occasion to pass dry road. The other guy didn't have them and he didn't suffer, the conditions were borderline. I only used my shoes because I had carried them with me.
The views of the Summit really started to open up, this is what we came for. It is sometimes hard to realize that above a ski resort there is still a mountain left to be had.
My climbing partner and I on the Summit. She didn't miss a beat on the way up, even carrying her own food and water, this is her territory more than mine I think.
Summit views, first to the North of the Ten Mile Range
East - The town of Breckenridge, Keystone Ski Resort, Grays and Torreys.
South - Peak 10 and on the ridge line the Microwave tower that hosed my GPS ( I swear it did)
West - That road goes to Leadville, that is about all I know in that direction.
Finally, the return trip, with the sun to my back

The track goes whacky in some places, I think the microwave tower because it has never happened before. You get the idea.

I‘m guessing this was a typo, you meant peak 9, judging by the pics. I did this hike in early spring a couple of years ago. The descent was o.k. I rode down the North Face, hard wind blown crust. The gully leading back down into the ski area was a lot of fun. Nice TR.
