 Night Hike (Standard Route)

What to do with 4 people who've never done a 14er? Do one at night. We left Denver at 1am and arrived at Trailhead to some deer looking on at about 2:30am. Left the car at 3am. Various stops along the way.

Most of the trail is very easy to navigate through the night.

As you near the top and are scrambling is when it gets a little more difficult to keep the trail, but if it is very light scrambling so we kind of just made our own way. We peaked at 6am, just as the sun was rising.

Seeing the sunrise over and around Mt. Evans was well worth the 2 hours of sleep on Friday night and the cold temperatures.

I recommend that if you do a night hike, at some point have everyone turn off their headlamps and just look up at the sky. It's amazing how much you can see without the lights of Denver around you. Priceless

Nice pics. Sounds like a great time. I hit the TH about 630 that day and while I was hiking, I was thinking this would be a great night hike. Coyotes were howling at about 7am. Hiking to the saddle with the sun in my eyes was fun On the hike down, I must of past 75 or more people and the parking lot was jammed.

Thanks. I too heard the coyotes. I bet we passed over 200 people. It‘s crazy how popular this one is. I highly suggest it for a night hike.
