Finally completed my first 14er after 44 years as a CO native (just too busy I guess)
Camped at the TH on Friday and hiked Gray's on Saturday and was glad to miss the heat in town. My wife and kids made it to about 13,200' and decided to return to camp. After much deliberation they said they would be fine and I should continue if I wanted.
Beautiful evening in camp.
The Columbines were perfect and plentiful.
The trail was very crowded, and although there are many posts on this site as to the exasperation with so many people, I actually enjoyed seeing so many folks enjoying the outdoors. Especially for this being my first attempt. Actually met some very interesting and courteous people along the way.
On top and soaking it in!
The summit was beautiful. Was on my way to do Torrey's but it appeared that weather was approching fast, which turned out to be a good decision to return to camp. I was about 5 minutes into my descent and the thunder started, did not want to chance it.
Met a mountain sheep on the way down. I think he would have had a hard time keeping up with me going downhill as my summit glow and adrenaline kept me hauling a$$!!
I must have passed 200 people! Thanks to the kind gentlemen for assisting my family with changing a flat tire at camp, gotta love those "Texans"! They actually asked me to remind everyone that their all good people. I never doubted them.
Wish I would have taken more photos, but my camera is a bit cumbersome and had to keep in the pack most of the time.
Thanks to 14ers.com for all the research help. Looking forward to the next!
