Decided last Wednesday to check off another 14er. So I started looking for an easy one not too far from Denver. So Huron was up next for me to conquer my continual altitude sickness. As in other reports there was a big avalanche that took out the road during the winter.
But the road is mostly clear now...
Although many other people were willing to try it, I ended up parking about a half mile down the road.
For the most part the trail is clear but there were one or two spots with snow cover before hitting the basin. The below was the worst however.
Here is the obligatory shot of the three apostles
Once up to the basin, the route is pretty obvious, and for a rookie like myself pretty ominous
The only place we really hit snow was at the end of the basin. In the morning the path wasn‘t bad. We were coming down at around noon and having a pair of gaiters definitely came in handy.
And a view back down...
After passing the basin,
the rest of the trail becomes very steep
Here is the view back towards the saddle, there was a bit of snow there that would look like a nice glissade back to the basin but my friend didnt bring any gear so I hiked back instead
Still quite a bit to go however, here is the view up from the saddle
And eventually making the summit, apparently I turned blue along the way but with enough breaks finally got up there.
