 Mt. Massive - East Ridge

I began at the Fish Hatchery trailhead at 4:45am. The first 2 miles walked on bare ground. When I came to snow on the trail it was firm and I stayed on top. I kept on foot even when I got into the forrest and snow remained firm. I broke treeline and finally transitioned to skins through the first bowl to the East Ridge. From the ridge I transitioned back to boots and was able to either hike rocks or firm snow the whole ridge to Summit. I reached Summit at 12:25pm. Cloud cover and wind rolled in which kept the snow cold. I strapped in and dropped off Summit into the East bowl below. Made some turns, then navigated past rocks into the lower bowl, still staying on snow continuously. I rode the lower bowl until it flattened out near tree line. I transitioned and skinned back North to my approach path within 20 minutes or so. I found the exit back through tree line, and chose to skin out. I skinned out on snow for at least 2 miles. As snow coverage decreased I transitioned back to boots and hiked the remaining 2 miles back to the Fish Hatchery trailhead, finishing at 3:51pm. 11 hours 06 minutes round trip. 14.53 miles. 5600 vertical feet.
