Hike to base of Democrat and to Emma Lake |
Started to hike at 7am and actually should have waited until 9am. There was heavy clouds and still snowing lightly. The temp was 17 degrees when I started up. The wind was fairly strong but nothing out of the ordinary. I hiked off trail and decided to turn back and hike around to reach Emma Lake. Great views of the lake and surrounding peaks. The snow was a bit deep at times, about 12 inches and loads of ice. I was not smart enough to pack my microspikes, so there was a bit of slippage. Even though there were three other trucks in the lot, I didn't see anyone while I was hiking. The weather turned out to be perfect and just wish I would have started a bit later to avoid the morning clouds, wind and snow.
