It's good to finally get some beta on the current conditions. So- good boots and an ice axe should be plenty of gear on the standard route?

For the Needle, just an ice axe should be sufficient unless the forecast shows temperatures below freezing, thereby hardening the route up Broken Hand Pass.

The Peak, that is a matter of comfort. If you avoid the bulk of the snow like we did then crampons were not needed. Doing this though put us some steep rock. Also, we were up there late in the day so the snow was soft. If you were on it early you may want the security of crampons.

by avoiding the snow on the peak, did you get into class four moves?
