8/28/2022 Route: Via West Tellurium, Brooklyn Gulch Descent Posted On: 8/29/2022, By: supranihilest Info: From the summit of "West Tellurium" there's some Class 2+ and Class 3 scrambling down to the saddle. Rock is rotten and there's mild exposure. Remaining ascent up "Tellurium" starts off easy then transitions to a high angle boulder field which leads to a false summit. From the false summit there's some scrambling along the now rugged ridge, mostly Class 2+, some Class 3. The rock is rotten and there's some exposure. We bypassed a rotten tower to the right/south down a gully, otherwise spent the rest of the time on the ridge crest. Only half the ridge from the false summit is a scramble, the rest is easy. We descended the northwest rib (Class 2) into Brooklyn Gulch. About half the gulch is fairly easy, either open or short willows with animal trails through. We stayed almost entirely on the east side of the creek in forest which avoided the marshy areas. Lower half is more difficult with tons of bushwhacking and deadfall. No real trail down the entire thing despite one marked on maps. Despite that route finding isn't really a problem, we basically just paralleled the creek the whole way. Would not recommend this as an ascent route, but descent wasn't as bad as expected. Eventually we popped back onto the aqueduct road and rejoined New York Creek trail down. |
