10/4/2019 Route: Northeast Ridge Posted On: 10/6/2019, By: WildWanderer Info: Lots of cleared avalanche debris before the Massive turnoff. There's one more area of avy debris just after the 2 small stream crossings that hasn't been cleared. It's short, but wouldn't be fun to cross in the dark as there's no established path yet. North Halfmoon Creek is very low in the basin so I just walked on its rocks all the way to the end of the basin to avoid the willows. There was a light dusting of snow/ice on the summit because it snowed a bit on my hike in, making the final class 4 section "fun". Otherwise, clear conditions. |

9/24/2019 Route: West Ridge Posted On: 9/27/2019, By: desertdog Info: I started at the North Lake Creek TH on Hwy 82 and hiked all the way to Deer's saddle on a good trail. Once at the saddle you climb up the west ridge. The bottom of the ridge has a small head wall to work around. This is the hardest part of the climb because it is so loose. Climbers right from the head wall (my ascent route) has a very loose climbers/game trail. Climbers left (my descent route) has some easy class 3 slabs, but is also loose in places. Once past this obstruction the climb becomes pretty easy class 2+. There are trail segments, but I stayed on the ridge most of the time. I clocked it at 10 miles RT. |

7/20/2019 Route: From Champion Posted On: 7/21/2019, By: cottonmountaineering Info: Just wanted to post some info on this traverse, starting at the lackawanna TH you can follow the same road up as towards Lackawanna, hang a left when it makes sense to get in the valley. Cross a stream then angle up and left towards treeline. You'll get to an old mining camp above treeline, then can go up Champion and UN 13,736. From 13,736, descend down to a low saddle towards Deer mtn A. You can bail off this ridge if needed to Lake creek. Otherwise continue up towards deer, there are a few sections of class 3ish terrain. Descend deer via the opposite ridge (class 2) to Frying pan/Lake creek saddle and walk a nice trail back to the trailhead |

6/20/2018 Route: Oklahoma/Deer/K 49 Loop Posted On: 6/24/2018, By: JasonKline Info: Other than one brief snow crossing below the summit of Oklahoma, snow was avoidable the entire loop of Oklahoma/Deer Mountain A/K 49 (including the tougher parts on Deer Mountain A). Ice axe and microspikes are unnecessary. |

8/30/2016 Route: NW Ridge Posted On: 8/30/2016, By: jwinters Info: Beautiful day on Deer Mountain, Pt. 13,736 and Mt. Champion from North Fork Lake Creek. Rocks on NW aspects were slick first thing, lots of sun got things melting, however. Snow not an issue on these peaks. The Southern Sawatch looks like it got hammered though... |
