10/22/2017 Route: S slopes to S ridge Posted On: 10/22/2017, By: d_baker Info: Cathedral Lake Trail approach, split at the sign for Electric Pass. Aspen area got snow on Friday night, so some snow on trail. After trail splits from the approach to Cathedral Lake, the trail is/was still visible, but someone had been up there on Saturday. The trail had drifted in above the willows section as I approached the saddle with Leahy & Electric Pass Pk -- mid shin depths. Gaiters were nice to have today! The traverse across the S face (below the summit) had snow but I was still hitting scree/dirt when I crossed that section. I didn't have an axe or traction, and I don't regret that decision. |

7/3/2017 Route: From Cathedral down Standard Posted On: 7/4/2017, By: TallGrass Info: Route is snow free. From Cathedral is C4 and fair amount of route finding/discovery. Couldn't find standard route from summit so ran ridge a bit than cut down to intercept. Standard trail is weak around the summit so take notes, photos, or waypoints. Standard is cruiser C1 trail. |

6/3/2017 Route: Cathedral Lake Trailhead Posted On: 6/3/2017, By: jasayrevt Info: Also, traversed over to Leahy (13,322') with Kirsten. 13er summits are an inspiring, invigorating hobby. This classic route is another recommended, straightforward path. It has incredible views of many quality neighboring Elk Range Peaks (i.e. Castle, Bells, Snowmass, Capitol, Pyramid, etc). Conditions up high were spring bluebird. So, perfect for navigating these slopes and ridge line extremely well. Standard light pack plus trail runners approach was good. Climb safely mountaineers. 7/10/2016 Route: Electric Pass Trail Posted On: 7/10/2016, By: Grover Info: The route to the summit of Electric Pass Peak is 99.9% snow free. There is a small 8' long section of snow that you can step through easily just before the pass at 13,500'......and even that part should go away very soon with the high temps. No need for any traction. Grover's 2 Cents: This is a great little peak in the Elk Range! I highly recommend this peak to anyone who wants to see the Elk Range without getting into the loose and nasty rocks that make up these beautiful mountains. I was highly impressed of the view from this perch. You can see Castle, Cathedral, Pyramid, the tops of The Bells, Snowmass & Capitol. Very straightforward hike too, as there is a well defined trail all the way. |

11/9/2013 Route: Standard approach from Cathedral TH Posted On: 11/10/2013, By: CarpeDM Info: Similar to last week. In the interim, several new inches of snow had fallen, but was boot tracked for 2 miles again. In fact, more bare ground those first 2 miles than last week. I re-trenched from there. Pretty much no wind this time, and snow conditions around the false summit were better. That plus me sacking-up got me to the summit this time. One could also follow the trail to the pass and up the south ridge. Lots of bare spots getting up to the saddle this time, too. |

11/2/2013 Route: standard Cathedral Lake approach Posted On: 11/3/2013, By: CarpeDM Info: Boot track first couple of miles, then snowshoes went on, and I broke trail the rest of the way (mostly ankle to mid-calf). The wind had already filled in my tracks above treeline on the way down. I turned around with about 150 feet to the summit - didn't like weak snow on the ridge. Wasn't getting good purchase with axe, and the relentless wind could've blown me over. I was probably being a wimp and probably could've found a safe way to the summit, but I hadn't seen anyone all day, so I played it pretty safe. I have pictures, just not a good way to upload them right now. Malamute looked pillowy. |
