1/20/2011 Route: Ridge over Tigger Posted On: 1/21/2011, By: Kevin Baker Info: The Princeton road is currently well tracked with a firm base all the way to the radio tower. I was able to drive my 4Runner to the first switchback at 9160‘. Beyond the radio tower, the track gets quickly wind blown, but trail breaking wasn‘t bad. I didn‘t put on snowshoes until the radio tower. The typical winter route is to go over Tigger and avoid the avy danger on the standard route. The climb over Tigger is tedious, but much safer than traversing snowfields on the north slopes that I found to be bullet proof when I descended that way. I learned the hard way. Stick to the ridge out and back in winter conditions! |

12/5/2010 Route: East Slopes Posted On: 12/6/2010, By: thatstite Info: My 4x drive station wagon made it to where the colorado trail meets the road (9,500ft). We brought snow shoes but did not use them. The trail is pretty easy to follow until after the north slope, which has little snow but does have some ice. The scramble up to the low point on the ridge was the hardest part, lots of loose talus and a few inches of snow. On the ridge the hike up to the summit was easy as several cairns are visible. |
