10/14/2022 Route: North Slopes Posted On: 10/17/2022, By: ArkieHiker Info: Packed snow on the trail starting at 12,400, solid snow past 12,600. Snow was currently not icy, but could change in coming days. Traction was helpful, but multiple hikers did not need traction to make it to the top. Descended saddle trail, snow on saddle and spur trail was in worse shape than standard ascent route. |

9/21/2022 Route: Grays and Torreys Posted On: 9/21/2022, By: headsizeburrito Info: Some superficial snow patches on north slopes but functionally totally clear. Significant trail work happening on the lower section of the trail. Got rain and snow in the afternoon, but nothing sticking so far. Saw a C-130 cruising over G&T, then head over to Bierstadt/Evans, looked like the pilot was having fun. 9/17/2022 Route: Grays and Torreys Posted On: 9/20/2022, By: mdecola Info: Beautiful hike, two-in-one. Couple noteworthy points - 1. By 6:30AM the parking area was still completely full. Squeezed in alongside another car near the top, didn't get ticketed. 2. Road conditions to drive to the trail head are truly atrocious. Really need high clearance & 4WD, even then it's rough. 3. Bit of a spitting snowstorm early on, only about 1" on the peaks so far. Nothing that needed traction or anything, still easy to maneuver. 4. Heck of a strong wind from the peak of Grays, down the saddle, to the peak of Torreys. Made the conditions pretty dang cold, so be prepared for the temperatures and wind. |

8/27/2022 Route: from Torreys Posted On: 8/28/2022, By: ScottLovesRMNP Info: Nothing exciting here, snow was gone by the time I reached it. You will not be alone on this route or summit in August! |

8/2/2022 Route: South Ridge Posted On: 8/2/2022, By: jordanthebuff Info: I descended this route only. From the peak of Grays, the top of the ridge is very steep and loose. I really had to take care not to slide or knock rocks. It would be really easy to miss turning to the left to descend from the ridge onto the slope. I used the 14ers.com app and had the route displayed on the map, with my location on. This helped me know exactly when to turn, others might find it useful as well, if only descending. From the ridge, the descent was again loose and steep with no clear trail. It wasn't until just above the end of the road that the trail was obvious. I felt kinda bad walking through the environment, but I tried to follow the route description as best as possible. |

7/9/2022 Route: Grays and Torreys Posted On: 7/12/2022, By: LightningSye Info: Arrived at 5:10 as a earlier post stated and had to park 1/2 miles away from the trailhead as it was completely full. The hike was 99% snow free with about 200 people seen total going up and down the combo route. The 1% of snow found was crossed during the saddle while heading back down to the main trail but nothing to worry about. The route itself is easy to follow and very much class 1 with a bit of class 2 in my opinion. |

7/9/2022 Route: From Ruby Mtn A Posted On: 7/13/2022, By: NotTimid Info: The traverse from Ruby is good to go - from below it looks like there is a snowfield in the way but it has melted off the ridge proper and does not impact the route at all! |

7/1/2022 Route: Grays and Torreys Posted On: 7/1/2022, By: RolfLundmark Info: Road status to upper lot: SO rough! I'm talking crazy bumpy. Allow 30 minutes from I-70 to upper lot. Arrived lot at 05:10 and only 1/4 full. Primitive toilets available. Enough light to prep and begin hiking at 05:20 without headlamps. 42° F and no clouds. Beautiful hike up Grays: Superbly maintained trail, well marked, and encountered a trail crew about 2/3 way up. Summit at 07:30. 22° and wind. No clouds and breathtaking views. Took 40 minutes to go down and up the saddle to Torreys. 30° at top and a lot less wind Went through the snowfield off the saddle without much difficulty. No spikes/no poles and only had to be crazy careful in two spots with sloping ice. Do not recommend either. No postholing. Back to upper lot at 10:20. There were still a handful of parking spots available. |

6/11/2022 Route: Grays and Torreys Posted On: 6/11/2022, By: nrobsaihttam Info: I hiked Gray's and Torreys both today. Got to the trailhead around 530, and ended up back at the trailhead at around 1230. There's still a lot of snow on the mountains. The snow held firm at first, but by the time I headed down there was a lot of slush and postholing, plus a lot of streams on the path at lower elevations. I would recommend leaving very early to avoid some of this. I made due with gaiters/microspikes, some people packed snowshoes today, but I didn't see anyone actually use them. |

6/11/2022 Route: Grays and Torreys Posted On: 6/12/2022, By: hogan012 Info: Weather was phenomenal. Had a few small patches of snow to traverse near the bottom of Grays but didn't really hit the "difficult" sections until 800-1k ft from the summit. Didn't necessarily make it harder just extended the climb a bit. Once we summitted Gray's and headed down into the saddle the snow was deep. Prepare to work and posthole with every step for a few hundred yards. Once we cleared the deep snow getting to Torreys was clear of snow and full of wind coming up thru the valley to the west. For the decent we went across the face of Grays thru multiple snow fields where the snow was mostly slush with a few areas where you step into up to your knee. Trekking poles were a must on this section. If you're worried about the remaining snow just go and do it. Take crampons and poles and you're golden. |
