Melting out quickly. The gully leading to the west ridge is dry - I'd recommend taking a helmet if going with a larger group. Loose rock in the gully (it IS a gully after all) is really not much of a concern, but could be with a large group spread out. The area where snow becomes an issue is the portion near the marsh that leads around the hillside to the gully. The class 2 route on the west ridge is mostly snow-free. Fun class 3 scrambling abounds if you follow closer to the ridge crest. Snowshoes were not necessary, but would have made a small portion of the return trip a heck of a lot better. You have two options later in the day - slosh through mud and water in the marsh or deep postholing in the slushy snow nearby.
