Drive west from Walsenburg. Take Colorado Hwy 12 through the towns of La Veta and Chuchara. About 6.25 miles past Chuchara reach Chucharas Pass. From the pass turn left onto FS road 415 to Cordova Pass. Drive 6 miles to Cordova Pass. There is a parking lot with a fee station, restroom and picnic tables. This is the starting point for the Southwest Ridge route on West Spanish Peak.
Trail is an easy class 1 most of the way, until you reach above the treeline, than trail becomes a solid class 2 trough the boulder field ridge to the summit plateau, might be a little hard to find the trail on the way up so try looking for the cairns and stay on the ridge, but will be way easier to spot the trail on the way down.
