Trailhead

From Fairplay, take Colorado 9 to the town of Alma. From the center of Alma, continue north for about 1/2 mile and turn left on the Park County 6 road. It's a total of 4.5 miles to the trailhead from here:
After 1.4 miles, turn left onto Quartzville road. Near 2.2 miles, make a hard left at a confusing intersection. At 3.5 miles, stay right at the intersection of Zinc Road. There is an intersection at 4.0 miles and Mt. Lincoln is ahead of you. Keep right and continue around a bend. At about 4.1 miles, turn left onto a forest road (recently named Crest Drive). There are private property signs and this is where people used to park before the land owners blocked off the parking. Don't park here. Continue 1/2 mile up the 4WD road. The Quartzville USLM site is around to the right in a large flat area.

Route

Taken from 13er Mt. Silverheels, 1 shows the entire route. Leave the Quartzville site and walk west up the 437 road - 2. Staying on the road, continue toward the Cameron Amphitheatre - 3 and 4. Near 13,000', before entering the amphitheatre and approximately 1.75 miles from the trailhead the road turns right before entering the amphitheatre - 5 and 6. Stay on the road and ascend northeast toward the crest of Lincoln's east shoulder - 7.

Above 13,200', turn left and continue up the road, toward the summit - 8. There are several mining roads and a bunch of prospect areas but just keep following the main road along the shoulder. Near 13,800, you'll reach the Russia Mine area with the obvious summit cone in view - 9. If it's snow-covered, you can hike directly to the top but if it's dry, turn right and traverse north below the summit cone and ascend the northeast ridge (Class 2) to reach the summit - 10.

Notes

There is no parking on or before the 4WD road leading up to the trailhead. You have to drive to the Quartzville site to park. In snowy months, it's best to avoid this area due to the lack of parking.
