This route is fairly unique in that it starts on the East side of the continental divide, but the summit is actually on the West side.
From the French Creek trail head follow the well defined Trail 651 for 3.7 miles to French Pass.
While hiking through the trees, Bald will become visible around the south ridge of Mount Guyot.
2.
This trail crosses a few side streams from the north face of Mount Boreas, and then crosses French Creek once. After this crossing be sure to follow the trail on the East side of the creek, to avoid willow bashing.
The trail is still very well defined as you approach the pass.
3 At the pass you will find a marker that designates the highest point, thus the continental divide location. The divide then proceeds up the East ridge of Bald, turning South at the ridge junction, then down and across Black Powder pass, up some of the Boreas North ridge, and then over to Boreas Pass. To the East the divide heads up to the top of Mount Guyot, and then to Georgia Pass.
From French Pass, hike up the class 2 tundra on the north (right) side of the East ridge.
4. The two points (13,600 ft elevation) can be skirted by veering to the right, heading for the slight saddle.
Once on the ridge take a short jaunt north, over a single false summit, to the top.

French Pass can also be accessed from the French Gulch TH, which is southeast of Breckenridge.
