This route is a great way to climb Mt. Buckskin and Loveland Mountain, together. Yes, there's approximately 450' of regain on your return hike but it's still only a total of 2,600' of elevation gain. If you've already climbed Buckskin, you can bypass Buckskin's exact summit, saving about a 1/4 mile off of your total distance.
First, use
Mt. Buckskin's Northeast Slope route to reach Buckskin's summit or the southeastern end of the summit ridge -
1. Hike over to the summit of Buckskin (
2) and return to the end of the ridge to begin the traverse to Loveland Mountain -

4. Near 13,600', the descent gets a bit more steep -

6. Continue down to the Buckskin-Loveland saddle, near 13,450' -

Follow a trail to the Loveland side of the saddle where the terrain gets a bit more rugged -
8. Stay on or just right of the ridge crest and continue up to 13,600' where the trail traverses right, along the west side of the mountain -
9. Cross the rocky terrain (
10) to reach an open area (
11) and leave the trail to gain the summit -
