Mount Evans West Ridge???

Postby HikerHankey » Sun May 31, 2009 11:08 am

Good afternoon. Has anyone been up the Mount Evean West Ridge from Guanella Pass yet this season? It looks like there is a good tread to Bierstadt, but I'm curious if anyone has taken the West Ridge route all the way. Thanks.

i just descended the west ridge on May 29. there's a lot of snow up the gully but, if you ascend in the early morning, you won't post-hole. you'll have to navigate through the beaver ponds and willows (it's a pain) because of the snowmelt and snow fields. i recommend going completely around them because the trail is almost non-existent. once you get up to the ridge from the gully, it's a pretty clear shot to the summit. look for the many cairns to guide you.
Save a place for me up in the high country.
There's still space to breathe.
