 Mt Yale 5.15.11

I car camped at the TH Friday night, hiked/ skinned in to the edge of treeline Saturday camped out and then up and down on Sunday. I took my 8 yo dog Madison with me and overnights are the best way to get her to the top. ImageImageImage Saturday evening was a little scary. Weather rolled in from out of no where and it snowed popcorn size chunks of dense snow for about 10 minutes accumulating over an inch before it turned to normal snow adding another 2" overnight.Thunder and lightning was the scary part as it was close enough to hear the crack of the lightning a few times. I thought about packing up but decided that being outside the tent trying to break down and pack up was the least safe of my options.Image The lightning moved on quickly thankfully. I got some sleep and hit the snow around 8 after taking my time with a hot cup of coffee. Image ImageThere was a great cloud cover that stuck on the gultch most of the day.Image The skin up was longer than expected but I had good weather almost all day.

Image I skinned up close to the ridge and ditched my skis and boot packed up the ridge in fresh snow.
ImageThere were only a few steps to follow but it wasn't that bad making them.
ImageImageImageImageImageI took most of the pics on the way down.ImageImageImageImage The ski down was uneventful but the snow wasn't that bad up highImageImage
