Iowa & Emerald Peaks - Chohesy Lake

Ah, 'tis the season when all good Cottoneers retire to a cozy fire and the climbing season starts in earnest. Made a climb of Iowa and Emerald from Clohesy Lake 4wd trailhead on the 10th of October.

Climb was last Sunday so we are starting to get a bit stale on conditions but there was an inch or two at the trailhead and a foot or perhaps a bit more up high, especially where the wind is starting to load slopes and couloirs. Wind was the word for the climb to 13,400 then the air went still. Hence a fought for summit for Iowa and a gimme in the form of an Emerald adder for sticking with the program. The 4wd road was fine for even a full size GMC, no issues as to the stream crossing, mud slide crossing or the elephant size wallows at just about the end of the road approach.

What beautiful photos! This was a mighty sweet climb with magnificent views, made all the more picturesque by the dusting of snow on the silver-gray granite. Looks like you had a blast romping up and down these enticing summits. Thanks for sharing this fun trip.
