Set out to show my friend from South Dakota some REAL mountains in the San Jauns. We got a very late start due to construction on the 550 north of Silverton and a passing T-Storm. We started our ascent from the SE side the traditional route at 2:20 and were able to find a trail that took us to the base of this behometh. After about 30 mins we had parted from the trail and headed up the steep scree mountainside via the well used ascent route. Towards the top half we began to experience small hail/sleet.

Image above was towards the last 100 ft. of elevation gain from here the climb became much more technical. We made it to the peak by 4:20. about a 2hr ascent.

The following photos were the last 20ft. or so and the peak.

This is myself at the top. after about 10 mins we decided to descend due to the nasty storm headed towards us from the SE.
