Emmons-Winthrop Route
Read the full trip report here. After completing the Colorado fourteeners we decided to set our sites on some others. Mount Rainier seemed like a good choice of progression from what we'd done already. Before going I had a hard time believing that Rainier would live up to the hype. I wondered if it was talked about so much simply because it's the only 14er in Washington. Turns out it really is much more of a mountain than anything I'd done before. I'd done longer routes and ones with similar elevation gain. However the glaciers and the unrelenting steepness of the route were a huge factor. It's literally like climbing the Manitou Incline several times in a row with ever increasing elevation. Plus add in that you have to fully concentrate 100% of the time to be on your guard for crevasses. It was an amazing trip and definitely is taking it up several notches over Colorado 14ers.
