 Mt Elbert Trail-Awesome trip

Mt. Elbert Trail 8/9/2010-This is a favorite.

Today was a training hike for my husband-getting ready for his 10th Pikes Peak Ascent, so we did not bring camera's.

We drove our Subaru up within about ˝ mile of the trailhead and parked. Road is very rough and decided we will park at the bottom next time.

From the trailhead to the summit it took 2 hours and 15 minutes and 1 hour 35 minutes back.

I'd forgotten what a great trail this is! Very enjoyable both up and down. Spectacular views all around! There are a few steep places near the start but surfaces are solid and easy to navigate.

I read other trip reports and was surprised at the descriptions regarding loose rock and scrambling. I did not experience this and can only guess that perhaps they had gotten off trail.

We only saw about 14 people on this trail. Very peaceful. This type of experience is why I LOVE hiking 14er's!!!

*As always, please be sure to stay on durable surfaces-tundra is so delicate up in these high altitudes.
